Petula Clark - Downtown (1964 TOTP)

"Downtown"

I am normally smart enough to not take my kids shopping at the mall with me, but today.... I thought I'd be ok, just going to one store. I promised the kids that we'd get ice cream afterwards if they were good. (it was 'free cone day' at Ben & Jerry's).
So, I went to my "store" and didn't find what I was looking for. As we're heading out the door, I notice a rack of jeans that look like they might be "my new favorite pair". As I take a pair off the hanger, Logan screams and lets out a wail of a cry that scared me to death, as I thought he must have gotten stabbed or something. I ran over to him and ask what happened, and he says that Hailey sprayed perfume in his eye! All the while, forgetting that I have the pair of jeans in my arms, the alarm goes off in the store because they think I'm stealing the jeans out of the store! So, I say, "We're leaving!" Then Hailey starts screaming crying because she thinks I mean that we're not going to get ice cream now. Anyways, after convincing Logan that he's not going to die from perfume in his eye and explaining to Hailey that we are still going to get ice cream (besides, I needed it more than anyone by now!), we head up to Ben & Jerry's. Boomer, who is the mascot for the hockey team here, is there to greet us when we get to the top of the escalator. Logan and Hailey love Boomer, but Hudson started screaming his head off. As fast as I can, I turn to find Ben and Jerry's... and what do you know, there's a line about a mile long to get a free cone. I hurry to get in line and there's a guy on a microphone (who I thought was so annoying because I thought he was just a crazy downtown man, talking on a microphone), and amidst what I thought was just jibberish, I hear him say "A 5 dollar or more donation to the Wishing Star Foundation gives you front-of-the-line privileges!" By some miracle, I happen to have a 5 dollar bill in my pocket and I say I want to make a donation and I get to go to the front of the line. I'm sure everyone who had been waiting in line forever was really liking me, but I didn't care. I had 3 kids with me and I NEEDED some ice cream, dang it! I hadn't had Ben & Jerry's for like 5 years, so I thought I'd just try "Half Baked"... um.... Ben & jerry? You guys are so awesome! That is my new favorite ice cream in the world! Bits of brownie, chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate and vanilla ice cream, whoa. Let's just say I was feeling a little better.... Until the top scoop plopped down on the floor, that is. And to top off my whole experience of downtown Spokane today, I got a freakin parking ticket. Downtown aint what it's all cracked up to be, Petula! I need some more "Half Baked"....

That's just what he wants you to think...

Poor Hailey gets teased by not just her big brother, but also her little one. So, this afternoon, Logan is telling her that he's going to take away her favorite toy, and Hudson is up on his knees waiting patiently for the perfect moment to pull out a handful of her hair. All the while, she is screaming every 2 seconds, so finally I say, (actually, let's be honest DEMAND by raising my voice a couple notches) "Get away from Hailey! BOTH OF YOU!" Right when I said it, I laughed inside thinking, "why did I just say that to Hudson?", as I'm thinking this to myself, I'm looking at Logan and he is trying to figure something out. Then he looks up at me and says, "Hudson doesn't know what you're saying!". LOL Miraculously, they did both leave her alone, so apparently Hudson understands. LOL

2 slices of pizza $4; watching the kids eat it, priceless.

This is what happens when you leave the kids with Daddy for lunch on a Saturday...

Book of Mormon Stories

I was going through a bunch of my old pictures and came across this video of Logan and Hailey. Logan is 4 (and a half!) and Hailey had just turned 2. They grow so fast.... and not much has changed. Logan is still hogging all the 'air time' and he is still snagging things out of Hailey's hands... some things never change.

What's your blog readability?

blog readability test

TV Reviews

I have no idea what this means, but I thought it was funny... I would have thought my blog was "elementary level". Must have been my Kitty Litter cake post... too graphic for a child in elementary school....

NKOTB

Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie and Danny.... They may be pushing 40, but the New Kids are returning to the block! Don't even pretend that you weren't crazy about them. Although, I regret to say, that I never had one of their t-shirts... (dang, that would've been a great investment...) but I do have their Hangin' Tough album and had a poster hanging in my room... oooo Jonathan... I hope they tour some place close to me, cuz I'm not ashamed to say, that I would totally go!!! Anyone else want to join me?

Happy Birthday Robbie!

This is a couple days late, (ok, like 4), but oh well. I wanted to dedicate this post to Robbie, for his birthday. He was out of town on his birthday, so he kind of had a crappy day. Nonetheless, he returned to his office later in the afternoon, and found a balloon bouquet and maple bars from Albertson's... his fave! Then he came home and opened his presents and we went "Outback". Big mistake. More like, "We want our money back!" The service was slow, the food was WAY overcooked, and the bloomin' onion looked more like a bloomin' apple'. It was pretty pathetic on every level. So, lesson learned, never going there again..... we need a TEXAS ROADHOUSE HERE!!!! Anyways, Rob promised me that he ended up having a really great birthday, so that was good. He requested Strawberry Shortcake for his birthday cake, so he got it! (Even though I was secretly hoping he would want the All American Chocolate Cake from Costco... oh well, we'll have it for MY birthday!)

I love you babe. Happy Birthday! May all your wildest dreams come true!

New 'do, tattoo, stinky poo

Hailey's hair is so thick and it was so long that we decided to cut off 4 inches and add some layers. She loved getting it cut! She's a new woman!

Logan is really into "Pirates" right now, and he got a fake tattoo in his Happy Meal. Isn't it so cool?

Just in case you don't understand what he's doing, I asked Hudson who stinkies and he raised his hand and said "ME". LOL No shame at all! Total boy!

Barefoot Contessa Hailey

In an effort to have my kids eat their dinner, I have decided that they have to help make the menus for the week, and then I let them help me make the dinner of their choice. It is working wonders! They get so excited on their night to make it, and they usually eat it all gone. Voila!

Kitty Litter Cake

I know you are all dying to have the recipe, so here it is... LOL
KITTY LITTER CAKE
1 spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 white cake mix
1 large pkg vanilla instant pudding mix
1 pkg vanilla sandwich cookies
Green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls
1 new (and definitely unused) kitty litter pan
1 new plastic kitty litter pan liner
1 new Pooper Scooper

Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).
Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.
Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup.
To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar.
When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. (Mix in just enough of the pudding to moisten it. You don't want it soggy. Combine gently).
Line new, clean kitty litter box.
Put mixture into litter box.
Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable.
Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture.
Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top.
Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly over the top. (This is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.)
Heat 3 Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted.
Scrape them on top of the cake; sprinkle with cookie crumbs.
Spread remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top; take one and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box, sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs.
Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around.
Serve with a new pooper scooper.
ENJOY!
